Dreamweaver | Site Definition Local Root Folder

Dreamweaver | Unable to select correct local root folder for a Site in Dreamweaver CS3 and CS4 on Windows Vista SP2 and 7

Heres an overview of the issue

A previously working version of Dreamweaver (in this case CS3), moved to Windows 7 (although I didn’t realise Windows 7 was the culprit).

When creating a New Site, I was unable to select the local root folder

It took me a couple of attempts to realise it wasnt accepting the folder I had selected, instead selecting the folder (above), in this case My Webs.

The answer or solution was so simple it was ridiculous…

Do everything the same as you normally do, except when selecting the Local Root Folder, select a folder (any) within the folder you would normally select.

In our case, we name our web sites by their domain names: ie websiteddomainname.com

Inside the web site folder (websiteddomainname.com) are sub-folders like images, javascript, common, wp-admin, wp-content, etc etc.

Its as simple as selecting any one of the sub-folders and Dreamweaver then correctly indexes the folder above

How simple is that?

Solution: Browse to another folder within the folder you want to select.

I read that you could alternately enter (type) the local site folder, but I couldn’t not do that.

Good Luck!
