Domain Renewal Group

domain-renewal-sHave you received a letter from the Domain Renewal Group?

Have you ever heard of the Domain Renewal Group?

We are pretty sure you won’t have heard of them, but guarantee you own a domain name, most probably a .com name.

Once every now and then, a client will call and ask about this company in relation to their domain name.

The simple answer is = NO, you do not have to do anything!

The Domain Renewal Group sends out thousands of letters notifying domain owners that their domain name is due to expire.

The wording of the letter suggests that the domain name should be renewed with Domain Renewal Group, when nothing could be further from the truth.  If it were not in writing, this scam-type pitch would be described as slight-of-hand.  Words including notification, act today, retain exclusive rights, transfer, renew, obligated and obligation.

To be fair, they do say that it is not a bill, but the document as a whole suggests that the domain owner needs to pay Domain Renewal Group to renew their domain.  A clever section suggests other similar domains that can be registered at the same time.

Sadly, one of our clients’ fell for the letter and not only renewed their domain with Domain Renewal Group, but also registered two other domains that they thought were good ot register.

Devil in the detail

  • there is NO financial or other benefit in registering with Domain Renewal Group
  • it aint cheap$ the example (above) shows $AU45 per year
